December Playlist

Yes, I know I'm a bit of a self indulgent spoiled nerd, I love playlists and presents, and obviously December calls for both.

I indulged and bought more CDs, LPs, 12's , 10's ( how cool is a Deutsch Grammophon 10inch EP featuring the talent of Carl Craig, Mortiz Von Oswald and François Kevorkian) and 7's than during the last 2 months and it felt bloody amazing. Xmas 2009 was a good one too in terms of music presents as my sister gave me the fantastic LP My Life in The Bush Of Ghosts and my lovely girlfriend superb represses of the Radioactivity and Surf's Up LPs.

Whether we're talking of Lindstrom's currently much talked about crazy version of Little Drummer Boy, a welcome return to a certain definition of house courtesy of the likes of Azary and III, Canyons, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Floating Points or House of House, the smart XX remix of Florence and The Machines, the mighty power trio of Them Crooked Vultures, the bearded guilty pleasure procured by Amaziah and Washed Out and the selected balearic-yacht rock- nu disco newbies and reedits that stand out (The Doves remixed by Lindstrom, Bottin remixed by Faze Action and In Flagranti, Rocha remixed by Mugwump, Harvey or Reverso 68) in a sea of irritating noodly efforts, the mesmerizing talent of such orchestral wizards as Sufjan Stevens or Choir Of Young Believers, the psychedelic goodness of Dungen, December delivered a well of mind blowing listening experiences coupled with much foot tapping and hip swaying in your very own muso's den.

I don't know why, but all this music and the excitement that goes with it makes me think of New York and the curious conflicted feelings associated with my previous visits. Hopefully next time I'll be swept off my feet.

Anyway NYE's close and maybe I'll dance this time - so check that monster Rick Wilhite track recently reissued on Rush Hour for everyone's enjoyment, including mine! Merry Xmas again and a very Happy New Year to you all
